The Looming War Between Telemetry and Privacy

We see Apple's Tim Cook and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg trading blows in the news over privacy. We see a number of law suits from other companies over policies Apple is putting in place on the App Store around tracking information in apps. We see ads on websites and in apps that seem eerily like something we were searching for on Amazon last night.

We also enjoy apps that are made in such a way that they are a delight to use. We enjoy the way developers and user experience teams can pinpoint exactly how we use their tools, what takes time to figure out, and then how to make them better. And we might actually still need those flip flops we were searching for in the Amazon app last night...

On the other hand, when private data falls in the wrong hands, it can have disastrous effects. So many organizations rely on telemetry to help them keep social security numbers, credit card numbers, and other financial and personal information safe.
